Genetics of the Dog

Genetics of the dog is a good model system for the research on human diseases connected to genetical aberrations. Dogs have been bred for years and have well documented pedigrees. The habitat of humans and dogs is identical and both species are affected by a variety of the same diseases. Therefore research is done on dog chromosomes as well as on genes homologous to the human ones connected with aberrations in tumors or genetically caused diseases. For this purpose operationally obtained tissue of “dog patients“ is used, therefore no animal experiments are necessary.
